Errors and Widener End Volleyball's Win Streak

READING, Pa. - In the hunt for their sixth straight win Albright hosted the Pride of Widener University Wednesday evening in the Bollman Center. Unfortunately, with over 40 errors recorded by the red and white, Widener was able to cruise to a 3-0 Commonwealth Conference win.

Overall Albright tallied 29 attack errors and 11 receiving errors in Wednesday’s conference match. However, in game one Albright nearly pulled out the win as they showcased some solid hitting. Widener managed to get past the red and white and earn a 25-20 win. The Pride would then use the slew of Albright errors to their advantage and take a 20-10 win in game two and a 20-11 win in game three.

Middle Alyssa Hoogendoorn and outside hitter Danielle Ozment combined for 15 kills respectively in the match. For the Pride Devan Green led their team with a match high 12 kills on 19 attempts.

Albright setter Lauren Higgins tried to pace the Lions attack with her 23 assists. She also managed four digs as well to help out on the defensive side. Libero, Kelly Nicodemus led Wednesday’s conference match with eight digs. Jill Bonitatibus finished second on the team with five digs.

Erin Wentzel and Alexa Jones each scored a service ace, while Ozment led the team with two aces of her own. Widener’s Jamie Ballew led the match with four aces, and also had 24 assists.

Volleyball returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Wilkes University for a 10 a.m. non-conference match.
