Box Score

READING, Pa. - In their final conference match of 2009, the Lady Lions (3-8/1-5 Commonwealth) hosted the Falcons of Messiah College (7-5/4-2 Commonwealth) Wednesday afternoon at the Albright Tennis Courts. Messiah who has solidified their place in next year’s conference tournament defeated Albright by the final score of 9-0.

Prior to Wednesday’s match, the red and white took a moment to recognize senior members Lisa Archibald and Amanda Cain who played in their final match at the Albright Tennis Courts.

Archibald along with Ashley Woodcock started the afternoon off with a very tough match at first doubles. Going up against Messiah’s Christie McGinley and Stacey Clark the two teams battled for every point, but it was the Falcon’s duo that prevailed earning an 8-5 win.

At second doubles Cain and her teammate Shaunte Allen dropped an 8-2 decision to Messiah’s Annie Gotchel and Kristen Chen. To close out doubles play the pair of Anna Berzins and Desiree Owle looked to earn their third win of the week, but were defeated by the final score of 8-1.

In singles competition, Messiah made quick work of the Lady Lions. Archibald posted the biggest challenge for the Falcons at first singles, but fell 6-0, 6-3.

With their regular season over, Albright will now prepare for this weekend’s Commonwealth Conference Individual Tournament, which is set to begin on Saturday.
