GLENSIDE, Pa. - After taking a 2-1 lead in doubles play, the Lady Lions (2-5/0-3 Commonwealth) looked to pick up key singles wins to earn their first conference victory of the season. Unfortunately the host Knights of Arcadia University (8-5/2-2 Commonwealth) had other ideas as they won five of the six singles matches to earn a 6-3 conference win Friday afternoon.
Taking the first doubles victory were
Lisa Archibald and
Ashley Woodcock. The victory marked the third straight for the duo. Arcadia then evened the score at 1-1 with a second doubles victory. Albright closed out doubles play with their second win to take a 2-1 lead.
Earning the key 8-6 victory were
Desiree Owle and
Anna Berzins. Moving into singles play, Arcadia evened the score at 2-2 with a first single win. They then took a 3-2 lead after recording a victory at second singles.
Woodcock then evened the score at 3-3 with a third singles win, as she defeated her Arcadia opponent Beth Osipowitz by the score 6-3, 6-4.
After the match tying win, the red and white looked to pick up two more wins to earn the conference victory. Despite their best efforts, Arcadia recorded three straight victories to pick up the 6-3 decision.
Women’s Tennis returns to action tomorrow when they host Messiah College at 1 p.m. in a Commonwealth Conference match on the Albright Tennis Courts.
