CAPE COD, Mass. - The player of the year honors continue to roll in for senior quarterback
Tanner Kelly. The MAC offensive player of the year and the D3Football.com East Region Offensive Player has been announced as the ECAC Southeast Player of the Year by the executive office Wednesday afternoon.
An ECAC Southeast All-Star selection as well, Kelly is joined by senior wide receiver
Nate Romig and junior kicker
John Whelan.
For the Clearfield native, Kelly has forever left his mark at Albright College, leading the Lions to a record setting 11-2 season and the programs first NCAA tournament appearance in over a decade. On the year Kelly threw for a career best and conference leading 3,030 yards and 21 touchdowns. His passing efficiency of 155.4 was ranked in the top-10 in Division III all season and his completion percentage of 68% (244-for-359) marked a new all-time best at Albright.
Romig also ended his four year career at Albright with some of the best performances in program history. Amongst his many accomplishments in 2009 were his three touchdown receptions during the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament. With 38 career touchdown receptions and 268 career points, Romig will leave Reading as the all-time leader in both categories. In 2009, Romig recorded 1,341 receiving yards on 91 catches. He also managed 12 touchdown receptions and averaged over 103 receiving yards per game.
Making his first appearance on an ECAC All-Star team was Whelan who had another sensational year as the Lions number one place kicker. The New Jersey native was 9-for-12 on field goal attempts, with his longest made field goal marked at 45 yards. On point after attempts, Whelan was nearly perfect having made 37 of his 40 attempts this fall.
The ECAC will honor the players of rookies of the year in each division and region in February at the annual Eastern College Football Awards Banquet presented by FieldTurf. The even will be held in the Pegasus Restaurant at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ.
