Lions Pick Up Crucial Win over Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. - With the help of junior right fielder Mike Nolan (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) the Lions picked up a very important Commonwealth Conference win Friday afternoon at Arcadia University.
The 11-8 victory was truly decided in the fourth inning when the red and white totaled 10 runs on only three hits and one error. Seven Albright batters were walked in the frame to set-up one of the most productive innings this season. Despite the loss, the host Knights totaled 13 more hits than the Lions (18-5), and were credited with two errors.

Wednesday's win improved the Lions record to 15-16-1 on the year and 5-8 in the conference. Arcadia fell to 5-28 overall, 2-11 in the conference. The Lions are now tied with Messiah College for the final spot in this year's conference tournament. Widener University defeated Messiah in extra innings by the final score of 11-10.

Nolan who recorded a 2-for-5 performance at the plate, also picked up a game high three RBI's. The junior was the only Albright player to record multiple hits in Friday's huge conference win.

Senior third baseman Jason Dunkelberger (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) also played a major role offensively tacking on a pair of RBI's and runs. Dunkelberger continues to lead the Lions with a career best 38 hits and 36 RBI's.

On the hill, junior right hander Casey Lawrence (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) earned his sixth win of the season, after throwing seven complete innings. The McSherrystown, Pa. native gave up six runs on 14 hits while only walking one batter. He also fanned a total of 13 hitters, which tied his career best mark.

For the host Knights, right fielder Anthony Champi had quite the day recording a total of four hits in five at-bats. Freshman lefty Steven Romond was dealt the loss with a 3 1/3 inning appearance in which he allowed five runs on one hit, while walking a total of nine batters.

The afternoon got off to a rocky start for the Lions as they surrendered four runs in the bottom half of the third. However, the Knights lead did not last long at all as Albright retook control of the contest in the top of the fourth with their 10 run explosion.

They then made it 11-4 in the fifth on an RBI single from sophomore Matt Pannella (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville). Arcadia would then put up their fifth run of the day in the sixth to make 11-5 in favor of the visitors. Following that inning, the Knights would record three more runs in the final three innings of play to make it 11-8.

Albright would go onto to seal the victory in the ninth after retiring Arcadia's seventh, eighth, and ninth hitters.

The Lions return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Arcadia in a conference doubleheader which is scheduled to begin at noon. Live stats will be available for the contests and can be viewed at http://www.albright.edu/athletics/livestats/xlive.htm.
