READING, Pa. - In only their second conference match of the season the host Lions were handed a 9-0 loss by the Falcons of Messiah College Thursday afternoon at the Albright College Tennis Courts.
With the loss the red and white’s record fell to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Commonwealth. The Falcons who lead the conference with a 3-0 record, improved 7-6 on the year following Thursday’s win.
In singles competition, Mike Callahan (Lake Ariel, PA/Western Wayne) had his hands full at the six singles spot. Callahan who picked up his first singles and doubles victory yesterday afternoon against Immaculata looked to continue his winning ways. Unfortunately, Messiah’s Adam Sheir took the victory with back-to-back wins.
The doubles pair of Kevin Gauby (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) and Adam Stamm (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) also had a busy afternoon. Following an 8-0 decision in the first doubles match, Gauby and Stamm dropped a tough 8-4 final to Luke Ruch and Mike Elliot.
Messiah closed out the afternoon with an 8-2 decision at the third doubles spot to seal the 9-0 win.
Men’s Tennis returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Arcadia University for a Commonwealth Conference match.
