Immaculata Slips by Lions in Non-Conference Play

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Despite the non-conference loss to the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University, the Albright Men’s Tennis team managed to pick up their first three victories of the season Wednesday afternoon.
Immaculata who improved 2-10 on the year defeated Albright by the final score of 6-3. Albright fell to 0-5 on the year following Wednesday’s match.
Picking up the first singles win of the season for the red and white was Mike Callahan (Lake Ariel, PA/Western Wayne) at the fifth singles spot. Callahan downed Michael Pancoast by the scores of 7-6 and 6-0. Adam Stamm (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) followed Callahan’s role downing his sixth singles opponent by the scores of 6-4, 7-6 to make it 4-2 in favor of the Mighty Macs.
Moving into doubles competition Immaculata picked up first and second doubles wins to secure the victory. To close out the afternoon however, senior Dan Martin (Farmingdale, NJ/St. Rose) alongside Callahan picked up the Lions first doubles victory of 2009. They defeated Immaculata’s Pancoast and Andre Brooks by the score of 8-2.
Men’s Tennis returns to action on Thursday when they play host to Messiah College in a Commonwealth Conference match. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m. on the Albright College Tennis Courts.
