READING, Pa. - In their 2009 season opener the Men's Tennis team faced off against Gwynedd-Mercy College in a non-conference match Monday afternoon. The Griffins defeated the Lions by the final score of 9-0.
Following the loss, Albright's record fell to 0-1 on the year. Gwynedd-Mercy improved to 2-2 overall. Despite their best efforts, the Lions were unable to pick up a win in singles or doubles competition.
Lee Fura started the afternoon off in the number one singles spot. He faced off against the Griffins Scott Campbell, who pulled out a 6-0, 6-3 win. Gwynedd-Mercy would hold the red and white scoreless throughout most of the afternoon. In the final singles match of the day,
Mike Callahan fell to Chris Keown 6-1, 6-2.
Moving into doubles competition, the Lion netters were still unable to pick up that first win. Fura and
Kevin Gauby put up a tough fight in the first doubles spot, falling to the duo of Campbell and Eric Trinkle by the final score of 8-2.
Men's Tennis returns to action on Wednesday, when they play host to Penn State Berks at 3:30 p.m. on the Albright College Tennis Courts.
