READING, Pa. - In what turned out to be their closest match of the season, the Lions despite their best efforts were unable to pull out the conference win against the Warriors of Lycoming College Wednesday afternoon. Lycoming defeated Albright by the final score of 5-3.
With Wednesday's loss the Lions record tell to 0-9 on the season and 0-5 in the conference. Lycoming improved their record to 3-6, and 1-4 in the Commonwealth.
In singles action, the red and white's
Lee Fura (Reading, PA/Holy Name) played a very close match against the Warriors Robert Brown. Brown went onto earn the victory to put Lycoming up 1-0. The Warriors then earned their second point of the afternoon following a decisive second singles victory.
Jason Lefkoe (Holland, PA/Council Rock HS South) recorded the Lions first singles victory, which was then followed up with a fifth singles win by
Mike Callahan (Lake Ariel, PA/Western Wayne). Callahan dominated his opponent defeating him by the final scores of 6-0, and 6-1.
Moving into doubles competition, Lycoming picked up back-to-back victories to secure the win. The third doubles match and sixth singles match were not played due to weather.
The Lions will close out their 2009 campaign on Thursday when they travel to DeSales University for a non-conference match, which is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
