Greyhounds Run past Softball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - On Thursday, the Lady Lions traveled to Blue and Grey Field to take on the Greyhounds of Moravian College in a non-conference doubleheader.

The host Greyhounds defeated the red and white in both contests in five innings by the final scores of 8-0 and 10-0. With the losses, the Lady Lions fell to 3-21 on the year. Moravian improved to 19-7 with the back-to-back wins.

To open up Thursday's doubleheader, Albright faced off against senior righty Maria DeBonis. DeBonis who has been the Greyhounds ace all season long tossed a perfect game retiring 15 consecutive Albright hitters.

For the Lions, sophomore pitcher Dana Parolari (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) made her 13th appearance and 11th start of the season against the Greyhounds. The right-hander threw all five innings and totaled two strikeouts and one walk. Of the eight runs allowed in the opener, only four of them were earned.

Moravian jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom half of the second. All of Moravian's runs came with two outs on the scoreboard. Olivia Evanko put the first two runs of the contest on the board following a single to the left side. Evanko would go onto record two more RBI's in the fifth, when Moravian extended their lead to 8-0. All three of those runs in that inning were unearned.

In the nightcap, the red and white were held to only two hits on the day. However, the Lions did make contact in every single inning, but were kept off the bases by the Greyhound defense. Elizabeth Python who threw all five innings for Moravian totaled only two strikeouts overall.

Sophomore Mary Dwyer (Jacobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) threw the first 2 2/3 innings of game two, while freshman Alex Tragno (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) closed out the final 1 1/3 innings. Defensively the Lions kept Moravian off the scoreboard in the first two innings. It was in the third, that the Greyhounds ran away with the contest, scoring a total of nine runs. Their final run scored in the fourth to seal the win.

Softball returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Elizabethtown College to face the Blue Jays in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m.
