Albright Swims Right Past Lycoming

READING, PA - The Lady Lions (2-0/2-0) in their 2008 home opener managed to once again completely dominate another conference opponent, this time defeating the Warriors of Lycoming College by the score of 108-95 Saturday afternoon.

Unlike their season opener, the Red and White were unable to pull out a clean sweep of their opponent but still managed to record some excellent finishes. The afternoon actually began with the Warriors pulling out first and second place finishes in the 200 yard medley relay. Albright's team “B” posted a third place finish in the opening event with a combined time of 2:16.83.

From there the Red and White got back on the winning track pulling off victories in the 1,000 yard freestyle, and the 200 yard freestyle. Taking first in the 1,000 was Adrienne Peoples (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) with a time 11:10.94. Behind her was fellow teammate Sarah Noonan (Frederick, MD/Urbana) who completed the event with a time of 11:41.79.

Moving onto the 200, the Red and White had three members finish in order respectively starting with Aimee Snyder (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg). She was then followed by Erika Giberson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and Kelly Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan). In total the trio managed to earn 16 points for the Lions, which helped them gain some breathing room from their opponents.

In the quick 50 yard freestyle, Lycoming's Stacy Flick managed her only first place finish of the day with at time of 25.86. Behind her were three Lady Lions, as Allison Fies (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) led the pack with a time of 26.66 and a second place finish.

Jess Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) took first in both the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard butterfly. Fies once again stepped up as the top swimmer in the 100 yard freestyle earning a time of 56.77 finishing two seconds ahead of her teammate.

The only other events where Albright did not place first were the 100 yard back stroke and the 100 yard breaststroke. In what turned out to be a very close race in the 100 yard backstroke, Lycoming's Stephanie Conrad managed to sneak past Snyder by only .72 of a second.

Albright closed out the afternoon taking the final event in dominant fashion winning the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.38.

Women's Swimming returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Widener University for a 1 p.m. meet.
