KUTZTOWN, Pa. - In only their second meet of the season, the Lion runners had to compete with some very tough conditions at the Kutztown University Maroon and Gold Invitational.
Of the three teams that competed on the men's side of Saturday's invite, the Lions finished second with a team time of 2:29:08.63. Earning first place was the host Golden Bears of Kutztown with a time of 2:22:12.04. In third place were the Rangers of Drew University with a final team time of 2:38:55.99.
Pacing the red and white in Saturday's tough meet was sophomore
George Cook, who placed fourth. Cook's fourth place finish was the best of the year for the standout runner, and was the second time in his career that he finished in the top-5. The New Jersey native crossed the finish line with a time of 28:16.10.
On the women's side, sophomore
Mallory Ketterer earned her first top-10 finish of the new year with a time of 29:57.40. Right behind her was teammate
Gabby Stine with a final time of 30:02.16.
Megan Ford and
Nicole Kelly also competed for the Lady Lions and each recorded times of 38:55.95.
Back to the men's meet, senior
Dan Dalton earned the team's second best time with a 29:44.01 mark, placing him eighth overall. Finishing just a few short seconds behind his teammate was
Bob Kellert with a time of 29:52.50 (9th place).
In 13th place was
Jake Goldberg with a time of 30:26.40, followed by
Eli Frey in 14th place with final time of 30:49.62.
The final four Albright runners finished the afternoon in order starting with
James Guischard (34:46.40, 22nd place). Next was
Jon Weber (34:52.81, 23rd place), then
Anthony Carozza (35:08.15, 24th place), and finally
Chris Bollinger (35:22.91, 25th place).
Both Cross-Country teams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Dickinson College for their third meet of the year.
