Four Inducted into Albright Athletics Hall of Fame

READING, Pa. - Despite the loss of former Albright Athletics Hall of Famer John Yocum, Sr. '49, the Albright College Athletics Family welcomed four new members into it's prestigous Hall of Fame Friday evening in the Schumo Center.

Earning a place on the very distinguished Hall of Fame wall were Rebecca Batdorf Stone, Esquire '85, Reverend Dwight Davis '97, Christopher Michael Rickards '98, and Rachel Connolly-McGuckin '00.

Stone was a member of the Women's Basketball and Track and Field teams at Albright, and still holds the school record for 100 meter hurdles. She was also a recipient of the Women's Auxiliary Outstanding Senior Athlete, the Women's Basketball Outstanding Player, and the W.A.A. Senior Service Award. Stone is also the sponsor of the Albright College Indoor Female Track Outstanding Athlete award, which is given every year at the annual end of the year banquet.

Davis, let Albright as one of the most prolific players to ever step on the court at Albright. A four year starter and two year captain, Davis was an All-Conference selection in 1995, 96, and 97, and is a member of the 1,000 Point Club. A fierce rebounder, Davis left Reading, Pa. with over 600 career rebounds, and is still ranked in the top-5 in a variety of categories including blocks per game and field goal percentage in a season. After his career with the Lions, Davis made the jump to the professional level playing for teams in both England and Columbia. In 2004, Davis received his Masters in Divinity and Masters of Art in Christian Education from the Princeton Theological Seminary.

During his four years at Albright, Rickards led the Lions on both the baseball diamond and on the gridiron. An All-Conference selection in both sports, Rickards received the Albright Freshman Male Athlete of the Year award in 1995. In that same year, Rickards not only helped the baseball team to an ECAC tournament appearance, but he was named the tournaments Most Valuable Player. He then ended his career with the red and white as the 1998 recipient of the college's Senior Male Athlete of the Year Award.

One of the most recent graduates to be inducted into the hall of fame, Connolly-McGuckin had an amazing career as a three-sport athlete (Cross-Country, Field Hockey, and Women's Basketball). However it was on the basketball court that she really shined, setting multiple records throughout her illustrious four year career. To date, Connolly-McGuckin holds a combined nine basketball records including, field goals attempted in a season, 3-point field goals attempted and made in a game and season, 3-point percentage in a season and career, free throws made in a game, and assists in a game. She is also a member of the 1,000 Point Club, and was named team captain twice.

When not on the court, Connolly-McGuckin was a standout member of the field hockey program. The conference's Most Valuable Player in 1998, Connolly-McGuckin still holds the record for most assists in a game, and was named team captain in her senior season. Connolly-McGuckin was also a recipient of the Albright Senior Female Athlete of the Year award as well in 2000.

The annual Albright Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony is held every year in conjunction with the college's Homecoming weekend.  For more information about the Albright College Athletics Hall of Fame or to possibly nominate a future hall of famer contact Co-Director of Athletics Rick Ferry at rferry@alb.edu or 610-921-7825.
