Ozment Named MAC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior outside hitter Danielle Ozment has been named the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office Friday afternoon.

Ozment becomes the first member of the Volleyball program, and eighth Albright student-athlete to receive this award, since its inception in 2000. The conference will recognize Ozment as well as the other 2010-11 scholar-athletes in May at their annual luncheon.

To be nominated for this award, the student-athlete must be a senior, and must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher. The MAC, which is made up of 16 colleges and universities, sponsors 22 NCAA Division III sanctioned sports. The MAC Awards Committee bases their selection on academic record (50%) and athletic prowess (50%).

During her two seasons in Reading, Ozment proved to be a leader both on the court and in the classroom. A standout at the hitter position, Ozment had a sensational senior season, which she capped off with a second team all-conference selection. The team and conference leader in kills with 309, Ozment appeared in all 26 matches this fall.

Not only was she a threat on offense, Ozment's stellar defense also made her one of the top players in the Commonwealth Conference. She ended the 2010 season ranked second on the team in digs with 359 and blocks with 46.

In the classroom, Ozment has maintained a near perfect grade point average, while double-majoring in both Psychology and Spanish. Currently set to graduate this May, Ozment boasts a 3.97 GPA, going into her final semester at Albright. Named to the MAC Fall Academic Honor Roll this year, Ozment also helped the Lady Lions to earn the program's first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Team Award in 2009.
