Track and Field Hosts Annual Home Meet

READING, Pa. - In their annual home meet the Men's Track and Field team picked up a first place finish defeating a field of five teams, while the Women's Track and Field team recorded a second place finish overall, falling to Delaware Valley College by a mere eight points Saturday afternoon.

Overall the men's team recorded 138 points in the win, defeating their closest opponent, also Delaware Valley College by a slim eight points as well. For the women's team they managed a total of 133 points on the afternoon, while the visiting Aggies slipped through with 141 points.

To start off the day Lindsay Boyd placed sixth in the weight throw and second in the shot put as the loan Lady Lion thrower. As always the men's throwers were on full display Saturday afternoon with Anthony Pellegrino leading the group in the weight throw. His toss of 42-04.00 feet earned him a third place finish. Right behind him was Andrew Hettinger with a toss of 41-08.50 feet, Robert Baldwin who recorded a final throw of 36-07.50 feet, and Dane Canonico who recorded a throw of 35-10.00 feet.

In the men's shot put, Pellegrino was once again the Lions top thrower this time earning second place with a throw of 40-02.00. Finishing in the third place was Jordan Gilbert (39-7.25) by Hettinger in fourth place (37-01.75).

Canonico placed sixth in the event with a throw of 37-00.25 feet, while Baldwin closed out the event in ninth place with a distance of 33-09.50 feet.

Albright was the only team to compete in either women's or men's pole vault. Erica Zeiters recorded a height of 6-00.00 feet, while Clark Runciman recorded a new personal best height of 11-06.00 feet.

A slew of first and second place finishes were recorded by both teams as the afternoon continued. Meghan Loos walked away with a second place finish in the high jump, and her sister Shannon Loos recorded a first place finish in the long jump.

Justin Gewirtz took first in the men's high jump and was joined by Clif LeGrand who placed second in the same event. Daniel Simmons recorded the Lions best jump in the long jump event with a distance of 20-05.25 feet.

The final field events saw Mackenzie Miller take first in the triple jump 31-02.50 feet with LeGrand joining his teammate atop the leader board as well with a jump of 42-08.25 feet.

In the men's 55 meter hurdles Oshane Rennie placed first with a time of 8.70 seconds, and in the 55 meter dash Shannon Loos, Taylor Kutz, and Meghan Loos recorded the top-3 finishes in the event. Shannon led the group with a time of 8.04 seconds. Kutz and Meghan Loos both finished with a time of 8.06 seconds.

Moving into his track event, LeGrand took second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.83 seconds. The very long 3,000 meter run saw Chris Bollinger place fourth for the men's team with a time of 10:42.10.

Shannon and Meghan Loos and Kutz were the top-3 finishers for the second time on Saturday in the 400 meter dash before placing in the top-4 in the 200 meter dash. Rennie was also a top-3 finisher in the 200 with a time of 25.11 seconds.

Kim Hummel and Gabby Stine recorded third and fourth place finishes respectively in the mile, and Robert Kellert took second in the men's mile.

The Lady Lions 4x400 relay team would then end Saturday's meet with a top time of 4:29.40 seconds, while the men's relay team placed third in their final event.

Albright Track will return to action in two weeks when they compete at the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships at Lehigh University.
