READING, Pa. – For the first time in his career junior guard
Zac Shaeffer was announced as a third team D3Hoops.com All-Middle Atlantic Region selection Tuesday afternoon. The announcement comes following a career year for the Lampeter native, who led Albright to conference tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament.
As one of the most prolific scorers in recent memory, Shaeffer averaged a team and conference best 18.3 points per game (493 pts) as well as three-point field goals made with 72. At the line the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year, and First Team All-Conference selection shot 83.6%. From the field he shot over 44% and behind the arc he shot a team best 36.5%.
Throughout his 2009-10 campaign, Shaeffer recorded 10 or more points on 25 occasions, and scored 20 or more points on nine occasions. Probably one of the most impressive performances in program history came in the double-overtime win over Alvernia University; when Shaeffer scored a career best 44 points in the 111-110 decision.
During the conference tournament, in which Albright was the number two seed, Shaeffer averaged 20 points per game, which earned him the conference tournament MVP award.
A multiple conference player of the week selection, Shaeffer also earned an ECAC South Region Player of the Week honor once, and a spot on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week for his career setting performance against Alvernia.
