KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The postseason awards continue to roll in for junior
Zac Shaeffer. However on Thursday, the Lampeter native earned probably his most distinguished award yet, as he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Middle Atlantic First Team All-District, as announced by the NABC.
This honor truly solidifies the success of Shaeffer's junior campaign as he led the Lions to Commonwealth Conference tournament title and the NCAA Division III tournament. The conference player of the year, first team all-conference selection, and conference tournament MVP truly became the go-to player for the Lions this season.
Averaging over 18 points per game, Shaeffer could score from anywhere on the hardwood, especially behind the arc. At the free throw line he was just as impressive shooting a team best 83.6%, which was also a team best.
From the field Shaeffer ended the year shooting 44.2% in all 27 games played, and from his favorite part of the court three-point land, he shot 36.7% and led the Lions with 72 made three's.
With one more year left in his collegiate career, Shaeffer will once again be the fire that fuels the Lions engine as they will look to make another run at the conference championship and the NCAA tournament in 2011.
