Box Score
CAMDEN, NJ - In their first game of the 2010 season, the Lions (0-1) dropped a very close decision to the host Raptors of Rutgers-Camden University (1-2) by the final score of 5-4 Friday afternoon at Campbell's Field.
The host Raptors took advantage of an error in the bottom half of the seventh inning to jump out to a 5-3 lead. Albright then made it a one run game in the top of the ninth, but were unable to get another player on base, following a double to right-center by
Shawn Walbert.
With
Matt Pannella pinch running for Walbert, the Lions advanced the junior speedster around the diamond on back-to-back ground outs. The final out of the afternoon would also come on a ground-out as well and secured the non-conference win for Camden.
On the day, the Lions tallied four runs on three hits, and were charged with the one error in the seventh. Camden posted five hits on seven runs and did not have any errors against them.
Senior righty
Casey Lawrence had a solid outing in the opener throwing six innings, in which he allowed five hits, three earned runs, and only two walks. On the day the McSherrystown native did not lose a step from last spring striking out nine.
Matt Rehrig came in to close out the final two innings, and allowed just two hits and two runs, only one of which was earned.
Offensively
Justin Danser,
Jojo Fischer, and Walbert made contact at the plate for the red and white. Walbert and Danser each recorded doubles, while Fischer recorded his first hit as a Lion and had two RBI's.
For the Raptors, Cory Downham, and John Diamond split the time on the mound and totaled seven strikeouts and five walks respectively.
Matt Hunt led his team with two hits and two RBI's in four at-bats. He also scored one of Camden's five runs as well.
Baseball will face another huge test tomorrow afternoon when they take on nationally ranked Kean University at 1 p.m.
