INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Late Friday evening, the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Committee announced that junior swimmer Chris Sheerer has been invited to compete in this year’s national swim meet in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Sheerer is now the first male swimmer in the history of the Albright Swimming program to ever be invited to the national competition. This year’s meet will be held at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, and is hosted by Beloit College and the College of Wooster. The meet is scheduled ton on Wednesday, March 17th and end on Saturday, March 20th.

This year’s invite is truly a testament to Sheerer’s success throughout his junior campaign. A winner of multiple events both during the regular season and at the Middle Atlantic Conference championship meet, the Lancaster native currently holds program records in the 100 (51.10) and 200 (1:52.50) backstrokes, and the 200 (1:53.79) and 400 (4:07.30) IM.

At this year’s conference championship meet Sheerer recorded a program first four NCAA “B” cuts, which qualified him for a possible invite to this year’s championship meet.

His record setting time of 51.10 seconds in the 100 yard back earned him a spot on this year’s qualifying list. Now that he has been invited, Sheerer will compete in the 100 and 200 back, and the 200 IM.

Since coming to Albright, Sheerer has demonstrated a one-of-a-kind work ethic and desire, which has made one of the, if not the top male swimmer in the history of the program.

Out of the water, exemplifies what it means to be a Division III student-athlete maintaining a 3.8 grade point average. As a Biology, Spanish, and Pre-Med triple major, Sheerer has already been accepted to Hershey Medical, and is currently a Resident Assistant, a student ambassador, President of Alpha Epsilon Delta (Pre-Med Honor Society), Secretary of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, a tutor, and a lab assistant.

His leadership both in and out of the water has played a major part in the continued success of the Albright Men’s Swim program both in the conference and in Division III.

A two-time recipient of the David B. Eavenson Award, which is given to the Most Valuable Swimmer at the conference championship meet, Sheerer shattered numerous records at this year’s meet, and will now focus his attention on becoming one of the top swimmers in the nation.
