Albright vs. Frostburg Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. - It was another tough afternoon for the Lady Lions (0-4) as they dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Salisbury University Early March Tournament. The red and white dropped a 13-2, five inning decision to Rowan University, and 11-4 decision to Frostburg State University.

In game one of the doubleheader, the Lady Lions totaled five hits in the non-conference loss to Rowan. Kelli Zimmerman continued to lead the team with a pair of hits, while Kiersten Gilfoy, Kim Rose, and Melanie Chapman each made contact at the plate.

For the Profs their bats were red-hot all afternoon as they closed out the day with 14 hits in 25 appearances at the plate.

Proving to be the biggest downfall for the Lady Lions in the opener was the bottom half of the first inning when Rowan jumped out to an 11-1 lead. Albright's lone run in the first came from Zimmeran after leading off with a single.

Albright's second run came in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Rose, which scored Gilfoy, who led off the inning with a single.

The nightcap was a much closer game through the first three innings of play, as Frostburg held a slim 3-1 lead. Gilfoy scored the Lady Lions first run of the game in the bottom of the second, after Frostburg jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

Throughout the second game, the red and white battled it out with Frostburg, recording hits after hits. Unfortunately they were unable to make their way around to close the gap on the scoreboard.

Overall the Lady Lions totaled a season best 11 hits in the 11-4 loss. Zimmerman recorded another set of hits, while Nikki Schwenk added two hits of her own. Gilfoy had a career day for Albright with three hits in her four at-bats. She was also responsible for two RBI's and one run scored.

Softball will return to action on Sunday, March 14th when they take on UMass Dartmouth at 3 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
