Day 1 Results
HERSHEY, Pa. – Led by three top-10 finishers, the Lions closed out the first day of the 2010 Commonwealth Conference tournament three strokes ahead of Messiah College with a combined team score of 309 (+25) Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Country Club East Course.
The Falcons closed out the first day of competition with a team score of 312, followed by Lebanon Valley College in third place with a score of 319, Alvernia University in fourth place with a 322, Elizabethtown College in fifth place with a 323, Widener University in sixth place with a 339, Lycoming College in seventh with a 359, and Arcadia University in eighth with a score of 387.
Leading the Lions to their solid start was Steve Werst with a season low score of 73 (+2). Werst's close competitor was Messiah's Matt Burkhart, who is currently sitting two strokes behind Albright's leader.
Right behind them is Albright's Erik Thorn and Lebanon Valley's Steve Garby who are currently tied for third place with scores of 76. Also placing in the top-10 for the red and white was Matthew Osorio with a score of 79.
Brett Cybulski recorded Albright's fourth best finish Saturday afternoon with a score of 81 (t-16). Closing out the day for the Lions was Brody Blessing who is currently in 33rd place with a day one score of 94.
Men's Golf will look to hold onto their lead tomorrow afternoon and claim their first conference championship since 2005. The final day of the tournament will begin early tomorrow morning and run throughout the afternoon, with the winner and all-conference honors announced following the conclusion of the tournament.
