Lions Golf Places Second on Final Day of Conference Tournament

HERSHEY, Pa. – After posting a stellar first round yesterday afternoon, the Lions returned to the course for day two of the Commonwealth Conference tournament. Unfortunately, the red and white were unable to hang onto their lead as they recorded a score of 322 to finish the two-day tournament in second place with a combined score of 631 Sunday afternoon at Hershey Country Club East Course.

Taking the tournament championship was Messiah College who closed out the second day of competition with a 305, which was seven strokes better than their Saturday score. The individual championship went to Matt Burkhart who was also named the Commonwealth Conference Player and Rookie of the Year.

Messiah's head coach Troy Boone earned Coach of the Year honors, after leading the Falcons to the conference championship. The Falcons will now compete at the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Golf tournament which will also be held at the Hershey Country Club starting on May 9th.

Earning First Team All-Conference honors for the Lions was Steve Werst, who finished second overall with a two-day score of 149 (73, 76). Sophomore Erik Thorn (76, 82) earned Second Team All-Conference honors with a two day score of 158 and a seventh place finish.

Matthew Osorio tied for 12th place overall with a score of 163 (79, 84), while Brett Cybulski tied for 16th place with a two-day score of 166 (81, 85). Closing out the day was Brody Blessing who placed 25th in the final day of the tournament with a score of 174.

After shooting a 94 yesterday, Blessing bounced back and shaved off 14 strokes to finish the second day of competition with an 80.
