The seventh annual D3football.com All-Region Teams have been announced and three Albright Lions were featured, including two from the special teams unit.
Wide receiver
Scott Pillar and special teamer
Matthew Hnatiuk were named to the second team, and punter
Brooks Mitzkewich was a third-team selection.
Pillar, a senior, led the MAC in regular season receptions (60), receiving yards (1051) and touchdown receptions (12). He was twice named to the MAC Team of the Week, in addition to a BSN National Player of the Week selection following his 220-yard, 3-TD performance vs. Wilkes.
Including the ECAC Bowl game against Cortland State, Pillar finished the season with 67 catches for 1141 yards. He now ranks fifth in school history for single-season receiving yards and TD catches.
Although not named to the All-MAC team, Hnatiuk, a sophomore, earned All-Region honors in the special teamer category. Not only did he block two kicks against Wilkes (earning MAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors), but he led the Lions with 13 special teams tackles, including 12 tackles on kickoffs (Albright kicked off 62 times this year).
Mitzkewich, a senior, was named the third team punter after leading the MAC with an average of 42.5 yards (including nine kicks inside the 20 with no blocks and just five touchbacks). He also handled kickoffs and was credited with three special teams tackles on the season.
Mitzkewich was twice named to the MAC Team of the Week. He ranks second in school history for single season punting average, tied for third in longest punt (75 yards), and third in MAC history for punting average.
A record 878 players were nominated nationwide across four regions. All-Region teams were selected in balloting by sports information directors in each region and D3football.com staff. All players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for the D3football.com All-America Team.
