In the first day of competition at the Penn State-Harrisburg Spring Classic, the Albright College men's golf team surged into the lead with a school record team score of 293.
That total was nine strokes lower than the Lions' best this season, and puts them in a 13-stroke lead heading into Saturday's final round. Host PSU-Harrisburg is second (306), with York (307) and Muhlenberg (308) also challenging.
Junior
Brody Blessing is second overall with a first round score of 70, while
Erik Thorn and
Anthony Rusnak are tied for third with 74s. The entire team shot well, with
Avery Jones (75) and
Sal Capelli (76) near the top of the individual standings as well.
Another Commonwealth player had a top performance as well, as Messiah's
Matt Burkhart shot 69 to top the leaderboard.
The teams will tee off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. for the final round.
