The Albright College athletic department officially wrapped up the 2011-12 year on Monday night at Stokesay Castle, honoring an outstanding group of student-athletes for their efforts this past season and throughout their careers.
The Abe Karlip Outstanding Senior Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards went to women's soccer goalkeeper
Olivia Giuliano and men's basketball center
Derek Hall.
Giuliano was a team captain and a three-time All-Commonwealth selection who backstopped the Lions to semifinal appearances in both the Commonwealth and ECAC South playoffs. She led the Commonwealth Conference in saves this fall, kept four shutouts, and helped win a string of games with outstanding saves.
Hall was an All-Mideast Region and All-Commonwealth honoree this winter. He led the league in rebounding (10.1), was third in blocks (38) and fourth in scoring (15.9 ppg). He recorded his 1,000th career point in a Senior Day victory over Widener. The 6'11" big man was named the Commonwealth Player of the Week twice as a senior, including when he notched a double-double against Division I Cornell University.
The Most Outstanding Freshman Female Award went to swimmer
Amanda Osterlind- the Middle Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year. Osterlind won both the 500 and 1,650 free at the 2012 MAC championships, the only two individual event wins for the conference champion Lions. She also set an Albright Natatorium record in the 1,650 free.
The Most Outstanding Male Freshman race produced a rare three-way tie, as a supremely talented class featured many strong candidates. Two conference Rookies of the Year,
Avery Jones (men's golf) and
Rick Sutton (men's swimming), shared the award with men's lacrosse attackman
Philip Potter, who ranked among the national leaders in assists.
The Neal Harris Academic Excellence Award is presented to the senior athletes with the highest GPA, who earned a minimum of four varsity letters.
Rebecca Woskoff, a four-year member of the swimming team, took the honor after maintaining a GPA of 3.92. Midfielder
Matt Davis was recognized on the men's side after playing four years of soccer and keeping a near-perfect GPA of 3.99.

The Memorial Prize of the Class of 1926 is given to a senior man and woman, who during their four years at Albright has shown qualities of marked leadership, been of good strong character, and has participated and taken an active interest in athletics. This year's winners were
Lauren Panichelle (women's soccer) and
Tyler Storms (baseball).
The Eugene Shirk Award, presented to the senior students with high scholastic standing and who were members of the cross-country, tennis, track, golf, or swim teams, were presented to cross country/track & field runner
Kim Hummel, and men's golf Scholar-Athlete award winner
Steve Werst.
The Derek Kehoe Memorial Award went to
Chris Tadley after he fought his way back into the men's soccer lineup following a serious ankle injury.
