COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -
Oumar Diawara captured the title in the 400-meter dash at the opening meet for the Albright men's track and field squad on Saturday at the Bow-Tie Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
Diawara raced to a time of 50.87 seconds to take the top spot. The junior shaved almost three seconds off his fastest time last season.
Trent Thorne won his heat in 55.27 and finished 27th overall.
The 4 x 200-meter relay team of Diawara, Kevin Waller,
Tymeer Roberts and
Colby Kutz picked up points for the Lions by finishing seventh in 1:36.39.
Kutz jumped 19-11.75 to finish in eighth in the long jump, Roberts was 13th with a distance of 19-06.25 and
Matthew Azzaro took 21st with a jump of 18-05.00
Jermaine Grey narrowly missed the finals in the 60-meter hurdles placing seventh in 8.94,
Jonathan Bieber finished 13th in 9.51.
Johns Hopkins won the meet with 102.50 points, while Albright finished 15th in the team standings with 14 points.
Track and field returns to action on January 15-16 at the Kutztown Collegiate Invitational.
