Amanda Smith and sophomore
Jacqui Montague each scored three goals, but it was not enough as the Albright women's lacrosse team lost a 13-8 decision at Arcadia in the opening round of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament on Monday night at Easton Field.
Arcadia went on runs of 7-0 to end the first half, and 4-0 to close out the second period to secure the victory.
The Lions, who were the No. 5 seed in the tournament, finish the season with a 9-8 record. Arcadia, who is the fourth seed, improved to 12-6 and moves on to face off with top-seeded Messiah on Thursday in the Commonwealth semifinals.
Smith finished with four points on three goals and an assist, and
Meghan Wilson also had four points with two goals and two assists.
Albright, making its first trip to the Commonwealth Tournament in its four-year history, jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 16:08 to play in the first half.
Smith opened the scoring at the 28:36 mark giving the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Montague tallied a goal off a feed from
Mariah Cullen with 19:19 left in the half to extend the lead to 3-0, and Smith scored again on a free-position shot that forced Arcadia called a timeout.
Albright held a 13-1 advantage in shots and seemed to be in control of the match.
Following the timeout, the Knights began their comeback when Nicole Hutson scored the first of her four goals at the 15:43 mark. Hutson scored again to cut the lead to 3-2 and Adeline Bellesheim tied the game with her first of the night with 4:56 to play in the half.
The Knights took the lead for good at the 3:08 mark, then pushed their advantage to 5-3 with another goal. Arcadia then scored two goals in the final 22 seconds of the first half to take a 7-3 lead at the break.
The Lions opened the second half with back-to-back goals from Wilson and Montague to cut the lead to 7-5 with 27:37 to play.
Bellesheim pushed the lead to 8-5 with a goal at 26:02 left, but the Lions cut the lead to one on a free-position goal from Smith and Montague's third of the match with 15:59 remaining made it an 8-7 game in favor of the Knights.
Jessica Santoli, who scored three times for the Knights, gave Arcadia back its two-goal cushion. Wilson found the back of the net for Albright to cut the deficit down to 9-8 with 8:33 to play, but the Lions could not find the equalizer.
Bellesheim, who finished with three goals and an assist, scored with 6:37 left and the Knights tacked on three more goals to pull away for the 13-8 win.
Jordyn Dunacusky made seven saves and grabbed three ground balls
in the goal for Arcadia.
Emily Hutson grabbed two ground balls and caused a turnover in the net for Albright, but was not credited with a save.
The game marked the final appearance at Albright for its first senior class.
