READING, Pa. - Led by freshman forward
Jordan Cassidy’s two goals and one assist the Lady Lions (5-7-2) picked up a 4-0 victory over the Patriots of Valley Forge Christian College (3-9-1) Thursday evening in Shirk Stadium.
Albright was able to battle the elements throughout the match, and earned a huge non-conference victory. Cassidy, who entered the game with two goals and one assist on the year, netted her first score in the 10th minute.
She then assisted Albright’s second goal of the night which was scored by
Isla Wilczynski in the 18th minute. The goal was Wilczynski’s fourth of the season. Cassidy then closed out her scoring spree in the 20th minute after connecting on a
Kim Harkins' cross.
The red and white closed out the first half with a 3-0 lead, and outshot the visiting Patriots 11-2. In the second half, the Lions continued their dominant play on both sides of the field. Freshman
Alexa Talbot would net the matches fourth and final goal in the opening minutes of the second half. Her score was the fifth of the season.
Through the final 45 minutes of play, Albright’s offense tallied 13 more shots, while the Patriots were held to just two chances. Playing in goal for the red and white were
Keeley Peltz and
Laura Kokolus.
Peltz started the contest off and made a total of two saves in 67 minutes of action. Kokolus closed out the final 13 minutes of play and recorded one huge save in the closing seconds of the match.
Albright’s offense also led the match in corner kicks taken totaling 17 on the day, while the Lions defense held the Patriots to just one corner kick opportunity.
Women’s Soccer will return to action on Saturday when they host Lebanon Valley College in a Commonwealth Conference match scheduled to begin at noon. Saturday’s contest will be game one of a soccer doubleheader at Shirk Stadium, with the Albright and Lebanon Valley men’s teams taking the field at approximately 2 p.m.
