Albright men's basketball all-time leading scorer
Tom Pearsall '63 has been included in the second Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame induction class.
Pearsall joins
Dick Riffle (football) and
Grant Krow (men's track & field) as Albright inductees into the MAC Hall of Fame, which was started last year as part of the MAC 100 centennial celebration.
Pearsall is the only multiple-time All-American in Albright basketball history, earning those honors three years in a row. He was an honorable mention Associated Press Little All-America selection in 1961 and 1963; Pearsall was a third team United Press International Small College All-American in 1961, and a second team selection in 1962 and 1963.
Pearsall is Albright's all-time leading scorer with 2164 points; he led the Lions in scoring for each of his four seasons and had a career average of 20.2 ppg.
He received numerous regional awards in addition to his All-American honors: as a senior he was an ECAC All-East selection and a first team All-State choice. His junior year brought second team All-State honors. As a sophomore, he was a first team All-East and second team All-State selection, and a member of the Eastern Regional NCAA Tournament team. He earned All-MAC honors all four years.
Pearsall was a member of Albright's 1960-61 MAC championship team, and played in the NCAA tournament in 1961 and 1962. He still holds school records for career points, career ppg, career free throws made (620), career free throw attempts (781), single season free throw attempts (231), and single game free throws made (20).
That 1960-61 squad ran off 15 straight conference victories, with Pearsall sinking 35 straight free throws over one four-game stretch. Pearsall was the MAC Northern's Most Outstanding Player, and was a Hall of Fame Tournament All-Star after scoring 32 points vs. Williams.
In recent years, Pearsall has been named to the MAC and Albright Basketball All-Century teams.
After college, Pearsall worked for 30 years as Senior Credit Manager, Assistant Division Operation Manager and Portfolio Manager for The CIT Group before retiring. He also worked for the Orix Credit Alliance for three years.
