Box Score
Three different Lion seniors scored as the Albright College men's soccer team opened the 2013 season in style, beating visiting Penn State-Berks 6-0 on Saturday.
Junior
Vitali Zaluha opened the scoring with what will likely be one of the goals of the season. In his first game back after missing 2012 with an injury, the striker ripped a 30-yard free kick off the goalkeeper's hand and into the upper netting.
The Lions were up 2-0 after less than seven minutes, as senior
Shawn Murphy cut past his man at the top of the area and slotted low to the left corner.
In between, a poor back pass forced Lions goalkeeper
David Oram to trip up a Berks forward at the top of the penalty box. The sophomore was only given a yellow card, and the free kick was placed just outside the area. The ensuing shot went harmlessly into the wall.
Albright's great play continued midway through the half, as
Tyler Waters played
Keegan Frick out wide. Frick's cross found
Austin Phillips, but he couldn't get enough on the header to steer it on goal.
Senior
Lamar Stewart pushed the scoreline to 3-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half, slipping a shot under the goalkeeper off an assist from freshman
Steve Bien-Aime. Bien-Aime soon had a header chance on goal, but put it just high.
The Lions kept attacking in the second half, with
Kenny Horning, Waters and Phillips all narrowly missing the frame within the first six minutes.
Waters scored in the 54th minute, with a soft one-touch volley off Phillips' flick. Waters then found Zaluha for another goal less than a minute later, but the play was offsides.
It was déjà vu on the fifth and sixth goals of the afternoon, as sophomore
Dylan See knocked in a pair of crosses from freshman
Peter Bockarie.
Albright (1-0) will travel to Immaculata on Wednesday.
